Today…

kinda sucked. As I said in my previous blog, I haven’t seen hubby in forever. He left this morning on a business trip and will be gone all week :cursesign: He has Thanksgiving week off so we’re really, really looking forward to that.

I’m kind of in that post finish-the-book let down that I succumb to with every book. It sucks but it isn’t going away anytime soon. Unfortunately it’s part of my process. I finished the book that would.not.end on Friday. No idea at that point whether I loved it or hated it or was just plain indifferent. I won’t know until I go back to it in edits. I did get any email from my editor today saying she was halfway through reading it and she loved it. Huge relief. That book damn near killed me. It’s ridiculous because it’s one of the funnest books I’ve written but there were other really important relationships in the book apart from the hero and the heroine that I had to nail just right.

Today I basically moped around shuffling my feet and trying to gear up to dive into Be With Me. (Love, love, love this story) But I didn’t want to dive into it on a day when I feel so blah. Just doesn’t feel right to do that to a story I love so much.

So tonight I’m just mellowing out, listening to some Tim McGraw on iTunes (thanks to hubby for getting me the really good speakers for my new desktop) :worthy: Taking a few notes and re-reading what I already have on Be With Me.

Oh and I booked the Vegas trip this morning then called a girlfriend of mine to see if her and her husband wanted to join us in January. :whoo:

Taking a break

Friday, I’m writing like a fiend, desperate to finish the book that will.not.end. I see hubby pop up on IM around noon. Now, a little backstory, I haven’t seen him in like two weeks. I mean, we pass each other coming and going, but he’s been swamped at work, long hours, and I’ve been writing to meet my deadline on the story that will.not.end. So I message him and say “What are the odds that you’ll get home at a decent hour today”

To which he responds “Excellent. Why?”

Me: Because I’m going to finish this goddamn book if it KILLS me and then I want to go do something. I want out of this house.

Him: Cool, figure it out and I’ll be home in time for us to go get the kids together.

So I busted ass and finished the book at 2:15. Hubby gets home at 2:30 and I’m like oh hi, who are you again?

We took the evening off, left cell phones off and went and played some poker. I swear we’re turning into pussies though. By 11 we were dying and ready to go home.

All in all though it was a nice break. For Christmas this year, we’re going to take a trip to Vegas (first week of Jan) because we’ve both been so busy and we could use the down time together. Personally, I can’t wait.

Writerly psychosis

Was emailing with my editor. I haven’t had her for a VERY long time yet, but I heart her in a big way. Anyway, she was seeing my completely neurotic, psychotic side and she asks very amusedly if I was like this with all my books or if this one was special. :headscratch:

Uhm Yeah.

I’m such a manic freak anyway. Complete burst worker (just for you Kathy) For example. Last week I was plugging along around 10 pages or so a day. Then nothing for two days. Then 20 pages three days ago. 24 pages two days ago. 42 pages yesterday. 10 pages today. See a pattern there? Didn’t think so.

Then there’s the whole day to day love/hate/love/hate thing. Four days ago I loved the story. Three days ago I hated it. Yesterday I loved it. Today I just wanted it to GO AWAAAAYYY.

:kap:

I need drugs.

Back Cover Copy woo!

I already got back cover copy for Be With Me (Berkley book 3) which I just sold a week ago. I snagged another 08 slot for this one though and have a tight deadline in order to get it so things are moving pretty quickly. The good news? I really liked the copy. I tweaked it some and tightened it but I left the nuts and bolts as it was written. It’s made me even more excited to write the book. I can’t wait to dig in.

But first there’s this matter of another book I have to finish… :vaccuum:

I’m supposed to be done by this weekend though, and I think I’ll make that self-imposed deadline. I’m building towards that big climatic all things go to shit scene and the closer I get to the end, the more focused I’ll become and the more I’ll make myself write. I’m seeing a few sleepless nights later this week.

And THEN, then, then, then, on MONDAY, I get to dive into Be With Me. :whoo:

And to think I get paid for having this much fun…. Life’s a bitch ain’t it? :lol2:

Party time, ebooks, wooooo

Samhain Publishing is celebrating their second anniversary (has it only been two years??) and all this weekend and for the coming week, the authors are coming out on the Samhain Cafe to post excerpts and fun contests etc. (You do not have to “join” the yahoo loop in order to read the messages and excerpts) I’m doing my Wish List contest again, which gives readers a chance at winning five ebooks of their choice, but you’ll have to hop over to the cafe for details :lol2:

I’ll be around today starting at 2pm Central time and then again on Monday, Wed and Thurs to discuss my past, current and future releases.

And psssst. Just a little over a week until Long Road Home releases :whoo:

One minute I'm moaning about Monday

and the next it’s already Saturday. :beam:

Things are tight for me right now, writing wise, which means no reading, no slacking, no whining. I’m happy with my progress, though. Turned in one of my projects a week or so ago and I’m on schedule to turn in another around Nov 10ish. Then I have a short deadline for my next Berkley book, but the nice thing is, it’s the only book during that time frame that I have to concentrate on. I’ve been sorta juggling two for the last little bit, and I don’t juggle well. I’m linear to a T. I can’t write on multiple things at a time. I’m a line em up and do em one by one type of gal.

I won’t even think of the books in queue after the Berkley book lol. I have three more to write before June 1. But once again, like last year, once I get to June, I’ll have a gap of time. Sorta weird how that works out. Summer seems to be my slow down period. Good time for vacation, I’m thinking :woot:

It's Monday…

Can you hear the excitement oozing through your computer monitor?

This weekend was the youth hunting season, so we took our three children out Saturday morning. Only problem? I’m sick with a cold and running fever. It really wasn’t that cold Saturday morning. Just chilly. But since I was running fever, it felt like it was 30 below. I was miserable. Told hubby no way I was going back out Sunday morning. We hunted the morning and afternoon Saturday and just the afternoon Sunday. I would have preferred to spend the weekend in bed, but the kids were way excited and I wasn’t going to miss out taking my daughter hunting.

She’s SO funny. Very serious, and I have to say, I’m really proud of her. She handles herself so well. She listens to direction, she absorbs it and acts accordingly. She’s careful, and most amazing is that a seven year old girl can sit in a tree stand and remain completely still and quiet for as long as she does.

She’s also a competitive little hussy. Her brother bagged his deer Saturday evening. She was crestfallen because she hadn’t gotten a shot. After Sunday passed without her getting her deer, I made her a deal that she could have first dibs next weekend when the regular season opens (when I would normally take the shot)

So as of now, it’s boys 1 and girls 0. My daughter’s solution? She might not get the first, but now she’s informed her brothers that she’ll bag the biggest. :purplelaugh:

Over at Naughty and Spice

today I’m guest blogging with Cece and company at Naughty and Spice. Talking about Menage :rockthefuckon: and I’m giving away a couple of books, so head over if you’re so inclined!

Edited to add: On a completely different note, I was also recently asked to guest blog at the I Heart Presents blog by one of the eharlequin folks who er uhm know of my rabid obsession with them, and I just noticed that blog went up today. So you can check me out there as well and see me frothing at the mouth and drooling like a mad dog :eatchoc:

Finished!

The novella that would not end and went 50, yes FIFTY pages over my goal is now completed. :worthy: Yesssss.

To reward myself, I went and bought 13 ebooks from harlequin. Never mind that I still haven’t read last month’s purchases or that the December books go on sale next week and I’ll be lined up like a crack addict wanting to buy more. I’m kinda liking having this TBR pile.

I also have two ARCs that I cannot WAIT to read. The second Sydney Croft book and the first Larissa Ione single title. *Rubbing hands together gleefully*

Usually after finishing a book, I’d reward myself with a reading binge, as in do nothing but read and read and read some more, but I can’t do that yet. Not until I finish Into the Mist. Then I’ll give in and let myself read a few books and first on my list is the Sydney book and Larissa’s books. Cannot. Wait!!! I seriously loves those girls’ writing whether together or separately, they just fucking rock.
