Visiting old characters

So here is my question for readers. How do you feel about scenes revisiting characters from previous books in a series? Particularly if their story may not be completely finished. Or do you resent any time spent away from the main characters of the current book?

The Sweet Series, for me, has been a continuing story of a group of friends. All of them, even though each story features a new hero and heroine. In these books while each set of characters achieve their happily ever after, things are not always perfect. That’s not the point of this series. It’s about two people who love each other and are committed to working out their issues and problems because they want to stay together and have a life together. The series isn’t about perfect people who once they make their declaration of love, they have perfect lives forevermore and ride off into the sunset.

Faith and Gray, who kicked off the series, have been featured in each of the subsequent books and they still have obstacles to overcome, but they love each other and so they work it out. Damon and Serena had a tumultous relationship and their happily ever after wasn’t quite complete at the end of their book although they loved each other and were very committed to doing whatever it took to make their relationship work.

With each book, the relationships progress and I’ve had a lot of fun showing that progression. But how do readers feel about it?

I’ve been thinking about this because I’m currently working on Sweet Possession, and last night I wrote an emotional scene between Micah and Angelina, the hero and heroine from Sweet Temptation. For those of you who’ve read Sweet Temptation, you know that these two had a very volatile, passionate relationship and that it got off to a rocky start.

So I’m wondering if you as a reader are interested in seeing scenes that further Micah and Angelina’s relationship in a book that isn’t their own. They certainly aren’t the focus of Sweet Possession, but as this is a series about a very tight knit group of friends, it only makes sense that you see them in each of the books.

  1. Brandy W says:

I love seeing how past characters are doing. Just as long as they don’t steal the book from the mains ones I love it. It makes me feel like they are real people and I’m catching up with friends.

  2. Heather says:

I personally love it when characters are revisited. It’s like revisiting an old friend, and catching up on what is new in their lives. I can’t speak for everyone, but I really enjoy it.

  3. Ana Ovi says:

I think that’s one of the reasons a lot of people love reading a series. Because even though a couple may achieve a happy ending (ish) we want to hear about them again. I love Micah and Angelina and to hear that they’re going to get another scene makes me so excited. I personally enjoy reading about previous characters with the current story :D

  4. Cindy Dusthimer says:

I personally LOVE IT! I love continuance and hearing about them, what’s going on in their lives etc. To me it’s like homecoming and I LOVE IT!

  5. Maria D. says:

I would love it, gives me a glimpse into what’s going on with them now, they don’t have to be the focus of the book to get some additional resolution

  6. Tigris Eden says:

I love see how past couples progress through out the series. Some authors don’t provide an “update” as to what is going on in the past hero/heroines life. So I say I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

  7. Angela Thurston says:

After just reading the Sweet Series recently, I loved how you touch base and continue the friendship and interaction with all the friends. Whether it is intimate or just a friendly get together you make it rock! You tie in and tell the story in a manner it keeps you glued to see what happens next. So I guess my answer is yes, having Micah and Angelina still have a small part in the play (so to speak) Sure doesn’t mean Conner won’t be losing the spotlight!

  8. Rebecca C. says:

I love keeping up with past characters and books that keep friends and family connected throughout a series.

  9. This one is a tough one for me Maya. I love the Sweet series and it’s characters. HOWEVER, when it comes to a new book I prefer that revisiting characters is limited to conversations with the main characters of the new story. I prefer them not to have chapters dedicated to them or for the point of view or voice change from them for the most part.

That being said, have you thought about doing serial epilogues to revisit the characters in detail. Because as you said I like to think that your characters stories are never fully told, that they grow and love and have problems to overcome just like normal relationships do. If you released these as short epilogues (which I am told have been very successful for Julia Quinn) for less than $3 each I know I would buy them (like I have all of hers) That way you can revisit the characters whenever you feel inspired, and adoring fans like myself can get to read them and you can earn a few more bucks.

If that’s not possible, then I’ll take it anyway I can get it :)

  10. Beth C. says:

I like seeing characters from previous books show up later in the series. I like seeing how their lives have progressed from the last visit with them. Most series I read are interconnected enough that there are always a few scenes with past characters and most of the time a scene or two(at least)with the character whose story will be next. Tends to make the stories more real to me to have their friends and/or family involved in the story.

  11. Elizabeth says:

Yes, I love when the author visits past characters. I think that is one of main reasons people love reading a series, otherwise each book would just be a stand alone. You need the connection. I especially enjoy visiting those characters that I became “invested” in. In a way it is like their story never ends.

Micah and Angelina had one of those relationships that was somewhat hard to related too because the average person doesn’t necessary have the type of relationship these two had/needed. So I think it would be nice to see that they are good and going strong.

  12. Linda Johnson says:

Yes, totally, for sure. May I make one small suggestion, how about a Holiday (doesn’t matter which Holiday) reunion of all the characters gathered together to celebrate and we get to see some of all of them and where they are in their lives. Don’t ask me why but these characters really matter to all of us who are hooked on the series. I love revisiting them. I want and need more than the usual “they rode off into the sunset and lived HEA” Thank you for caring and taking the time to ask?

  13. Rachel says:

Oh, I LOVE seeing characters from past books! They don’t need to take up a long chapter, but I think it’s great seeing them–half the time I wonder what they are up to anyway. :-)

  14. Jess says:

I love when past characters come back for more! Especially when it’s more than just a mention of what they’re up to. I don’t think it takes away from the main storyline at all, when the series centers around friends and family it makes sense to get a little bit more from the supporting characters. Personally, I LOVE seeing Damon and Serena’s names come up :)

  15. Rach says:

That would be awesome! I do have to say Serena and Damon were y favorites and getting just a peek at them together in Julie’s book was fantastic. I think when a reader has established a vested interested in series, especially characters, revisiting them in later books is fun and keeps the realness alive. I for one would love it for what it counts.

  16. Angie says:

YES!!! I get attached to characters and love seeing them evolve throughout a series. I loved Micah and Angelina and would be absolutely thrilled to see them again!

  17. Lillie says:

I love hearing about previous characters and I would especially love to see more of Micah :D

  18. Shannon Wiseman says:

I adore it when an author continues characters in subsequent books. It keeps those favorite characters alive for me and prevents the book for feeling insular.

  19. Alyssa West says:

I absolutely LOVE hearing about past characters!! After reading the past books in the Sweet Series, I never want to stop hearing about the other characters and the continued friendships between everyone! Sweet Temptation was my favorite book out of the series- (even though I’m obsessed with them ALL) …so hearing more about Micah and Angelina will be an amazing bonus!! YOU’RE AWESOME MAYA!! I caaaan’t waaaait to read Sweet Possession!!

  20. Blanche says:

I love catching up/revisiting characters from past books in a series! It makes everything “right in the world” when I can read how my favorite characters are doing, I think that is what makes a series a great series! :)

  21. Kelly says:

When it comes to series, I don’t always feel like because their book is done…their story is over. Even though they may not be the main focus, I still want to know about the past characters.

For the sweet series, there’s so much more I want to know. Do Faith/Gray ever have a baby? How are Micah/Angelina going to handle parenthood?

I know they won’t be the main focus of the book, but I still love hearing about them.

  22. Heather Brewer says:

I love when characters are revisited in a series. That’s what I love about some of my favorite series like the Sweet Series, Lora Leigh’s Breeds, SEALs/Ops series, Psy/Changling by NalinI, etc. It’s hard to always complete a story & tie up everything do it’s nice to revisit them.

Sometimes the events may have a bearing on the new story so they are important to the outcome.

  23. Heather Hann says:

I love when author’s do this for several reasons a sometimes when u r reading a series u wonder what happened with this if it wasn’t put into the book about the characters and then bam in the next installment ur question is answered.also if u have by chance just picked up this book it makes u wanna go and buy the other books so u can learn about these other characters.so i for one aim all for visiting with other characters.LOVE THIS SERIES SO CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT INSTALLMENT.LOVIN IT.CANT WAIT FOR SWEET POSSESSION!!!!

  24. Joyce Sharp says:

I love the idea, and also loved getting the peaks at the other characters lives and how they are doing. I agree with the others, it is nice catching up! I always wonder what else happens. Kinda of funny, I was just thinking about that today, just read the Colter series and can’t wait for Callie’s story. LOL

  25. Lynn M says:

I seem to be with the majority of your reader! Maybe thats why we keep coming back! :) I love when you bring everyone back for little tastes and teasers. I love hearing about Damon & Serena! These connections between everyone, all the friends, is what makes the series. In my ever so humble opinion.

    Keep it going!!!

  26. mbot565 says:

I personally LOVE reading how the couples from previous books are doing in current one, especially in the Sweet series, because they all are connected together on a daily basis. It feels like reading one giant book with, so far 4 big chapters (“soon” to be 6) each focusing on a couple, but the story still flows from one to the next. Love the fact that I got to read Damon & Serena got married in Sweet Seduction. Felt like I stayed connected with them all the time.

I’ll happily welcome any session between Angelina & Micah in the next book, and I’ll welcome reading any Connor & Lyric update on Cole’s book. I’m greedy, can’t get enough of the Sweet’s couples. Bring em’ on.

  27. Jaimie says:

I love hearing about past characters. For me Faith/Gray and Micah/Angelina were my favorites so to hear about them in any capacity is great. This is one reason I enjoy series books – I like knowing the main players and hearing about the past characters and what they have gone on to in their lives. I don’t think it takes away from the current story at all.

  28. zina says:

I like to see familar old faces and many times I have wished to know how things are going with characters from eariler books. As long as they don’t take over the story in the current book I like it and I think it’s great that you show how they are still progressing in the relationship.
    Zina

  29. Emily L. says:

Hell yes! I love returning to visit with returning characters and discover how they work out problems left unsolved in their books.

  30. Sharon says:

I suppose I have mixed feelings about devoting (too much) time to previous couples because I think it largely depends on the reader and whether or not they loved that particular couple as much as the current or other previous ones. I absolutely loved the Faith and Gray side line story in Nathan and Julie’s story simply because Faith and Gray have a special place in my heart not only being the first couple in the series but because their story and the characters itself have been the best suited to my own personal tastes.

I believe that should the author decide to revisit previous couples, my hope is that it does something to further the story of the current hero and heroine. No matter how much I enjoyed reading and Faith and Gray’s misunderstanding, pregnancy possibility, and subsequent elopement, if I removed my emotions away from the characters themselves and looked at the book of Nathan and Julie objectively, I feel like that side story about Faith and Gray didn’t add to Nathan and Julie’s journey. Indeed, I loved it and in some cases, I flipped some pages in order to read about Gray and Faith and then went back to read about Nathan and Julie. I didn’t feel out of the loop by skipping around like that and it very much read like a little extra snippet of Gray and Faith in addition to the main story. So, overall, if I were to be objective about it, I don’t think the Gray and Faith story line served any purpose to push along the story of Nathan and Julie.

But of course, I feel like the author adds in those things for their own reasons whether or not it appears to me (the reader) like it adds to the current hero and heroine’s journey but I usually love to get a glimpse of the ‘after happily after’ from previous couples. Having said that, I feel like a glimpse is often better than a prolonged look. :) Wetting my appetite is always better because it allows me to fill in the gaps of what I perceive as a couple that is fully committed to each other for life.

  31. Rin says:

I abso-freaking-lutely LOVE it when old characters get air time in new books when they are part of a series, this is why i love to buy SERIES books. When I put the time and effort into becoming emotionally invested in these characters, I want to know how they are doing, especially if there were some rough patches that still need to be smoothed over. The only time I did not like this (cough cough JR Ward) was when the main couple got less air time than old couples, that to me took the “revisit” aspect of the book to a whole new level and took important character and relationship development (that was needed) away from the main couple. I ended up feeling gipped by the main couple but more content with the old characters revisted. With all this being said, I would love for all of my favorite authors to allow me glimpses of their old characters in some way or another, and appreciate it even more when they make the “revisit” something beyond just casual conversation. So please please please continue this trend throughout your new books and perhaps give us some more of this in your old books as well ;-)

  32. Erin says:

Actually, the way that you’ve brought back old characters in the Sweet series is the only way that I like them to show up. I’m not a fan of cameos that play no meaningful purpose in the current story other than to give the older characters a chance to wave and say hi. When those characters appear because they are linked to the current story, or because something in their current situation can help to provide insight into the main couple then I love it. Maybe it’s just me, but in a series like this that is about a group a friends, it would seem sort of odd not to continue to see previous couples grow and change.

  33. Holly says:

I think this is what brings it from a very recipe like romance where it’s all about the hero and heroine and nothing else going on in their lives matters or gets any attention. I have not ready any of the Sweet series but it sounds like an episode of Friends, or a Maeve Binchy novel- I know she focuses on a ramance but visits other characters’ stories and relationships as well. I think it works very well and adds a certain richness missing in some romance novels.

  34. Kerrie says:

I love hearing about past characters to see what they are doing how they are and what is going on with them in other books. It is one of the main reasons I love series books for the fact that those characters live on and you get to hear about what is going on with them and how their lives are still tangled with the current books characters.

  35. Midnight says:

Very interested in characters revisiting in each book. It makes the series more alive and connected. If there is no over-cross, is it really a series or just another book? There is always some kind of connection and the characters are always the best! I love how you bring the old characters back into the new story line. They take up just enough to keep the book flowing and not overtake a story that is not theirs!

    :winks:

  36. Valerie says:

I really like seeing those glimpses of other characters. Even if their stories aren’t finished yet. It’s a nice little teaser along the way. I think it also adds to the realism of the book, because you begin to develop a sense of community that is missing from books that solely focus on the main characters.

  37. Tabatha says:

I love when people from other books appear as friends or because they are family etc. I have read some books that there is only a few pages with someone new and they are involved in a event happening and they have their own book. always nice to meet new people and then them have a book or see old appear even if from another series I have come accross this once or twice and loved it! and see how they are doing.

  38. Ellen G says:

Love the continuation of stories. You characters often become”real”to me so revisiting them is a natural progression.

You are a “go to”author at Village Books in Columbia,MO
That is where I first read you and have never looked back.
    Ellen

  39. Tara Clegg says:

I love revisiting characters. It’s always wonderful to see how they are doing.

  40. Kirsten says:

There is nothing better than seeing the old favorites return in current stories! Once committed to a series, you love the characters-flaws & all. I enjoy the excitement of a new story with cameos from previous books. I love to see where they are at and what they bring to the new story. It’s nice to know characters are not written then forgotten! Series characters are a connected group and it wouldn’t be the same without that connection being followed through. I say go for it!

  41. Lori says:

I thinks it’s great to have charactures revisited. All the charactures are friends and as friends their lives interact together. This makes the story lines more realistic to me. It is the same in real life as our own friends pop in and out from time to time. Plus it’s nice to know what they are up too. Keep up the great work and thanks for all the enjoyable hours of good reading.

  42. lauren doremus says:

I love how you keep us up to date with the other characters from the previous books!!!Sweet temptation is my favorite book in the series and im glad that we get the chance to continue to get to know more about the them and their growing family. To me it only seems fit that we get to see more of angelina in connor’s book because he really was the 1st to be friend her in sweet temptation. I think your doing a great job and i woludnt change a single thing you do. You make the characters seem so real so, that their happiness is mine and their pain is mine and thats just the way i like it, to feel conected to the story.

  43. MJ says:

I LOVE it when we revisit characters from past books, just as I like the ‘foreshadowing’ of the stories that may develop for other characters in future books.

For one thing, I do get attached to them and like to see that their relationships continue to evolve and thrive (these days, getting together isn’t the miracle as much as staying together through the stresses of life and perhaps we want to see a bit more of the HEA as a result, instead of just imagining it).

Also, the main story of these characters is written from their POV…and when we see them later, it’s not entirely from their POV (although short scenes may be) but through the eyes of others. That’s always interesting and adds to them as characters (at least it is when YOU write them…takes skill).

Cheers and thanks for asking us… I enjoy your books so much and am looking forward to the next Sweet (and especially a scene with Micah and Angelina, theirs is likely to be a challenging adjustment period given their pasts).

  44. Debra V says:

I love catching up with past characters. I want to know that they are still a couple and have worked out their issues, or are still trying to work them out. And in your books they don’t overtake the main characters they just enhance the whole story. That is what makes your books so good!!!

  45. I love reading more of old characters. I actually prefer it in a series because otherwise it feels like the author doesn’t care about the old characters the way I do.

Especially in the Sweet series I loved learning more about old characters with every book. For example I enjoyed reading more about Julia and Nathan in the last Sweet book.

  46. Sharon S says:

I LOVE series books. They give you a connection and a history of the characters. Your Sweet series is a perfect example. A group of friends in which, one by one, you tell their story but as you are doing this you also have the other characters appear throughout the story! As for Micah and Angelina appearing in Sweet Possession, I’m glad they show up in the storyline. Of all the stories so far in this series they had the most emotional one so it’ll be nice to read how they are doing while also enjoying Connor’s story! Revisiting characters? I say “Bring it on!”
Maya, I am looking forward to reading Sweet Possession as well as The Darkest Hour!

  47. Sharon W says:

I absolutely LOVE It when you bring in other charaters from previous books. As you said this is a series about a group of friends, and I would love to hear more about the previous charaters and how they are each doing in their own relationships. As you said, relationships take work and they are not all perfect once they declare their love for one another. So please, keep writing about all the charaters and keep on doing what you do best. WRITING great books. Thank you.

  48. Terri says:

I love reading about characters from previous books. If I’ve read the previous books, like all of yours, it brings back memories of their stories as if they are friends and I’m remembering something we’ve done. If I haven’t read the book, these scenes may intrigue me enough to go buy some books from their backlist, like Joey Hill. No matter what, I good author can work characters from previous books into the story and thrill their readers, old and new.

    Terri

  49. Christina R. says:

Personally, I really love that you give us further updates on previous characters in your current book and I think that is what makes your Sweet series one of my all time favorites. The only way I think it would take away from the series would be if you were to have a hero and heroine split up because it wasn’t working out. That would probably make me not want to read their book ever again. I have a tendancy to become emotionally involved with the characters and it would break my heart to think they didn’t get their happily ever after.

  50. RobinV says:

It’s one of the reasons I love your books….you keep us in the loop on what is going on with the characters from your previous books. I think it makes the stories much more satisfying and enjoyable!
    Robin

  51. barbara says:

I agree with everyone else…..you get attached and want to hear how they are doing. Can’t wait to read more about Micah and Angelina..especially about the sweet baby :)

  52. i loved micah and angeline so i would love to hear more about them…

  53. Amy culp says:

I think it is kind of a good thing because you are always thinking about the other characters in the book and you wonder what has happened to them at least I do . So thank you for doing that!!

  54. Sabrina D says:

I love it as I always wonder what happened next especially when it isn’t a perfect HEA..

  55. sharalyn says:

I would love to hear more about the other couples. It is almost like a movie in your head if you can understand that. I love this series anyway.

  56. Missy says:

Well yeah I wanna hear more about the other characters. Just because they are living the HEA doesn’t mean I don’t love them anymore. ;)

  57. Janet says:

So enjoy the continued connections between all the couples from the previous books. The continuity gives each succeeding book a richer history. Please keep adding more to each previous couple as you build on the next couples lives. Love the series.

  58. Michele says:

I love connected stories. I like how we get a glimpse of their life after their story is told, especially, as you’ve said, they are such a close group of friends.

  59. I always loved revisiting characters from other books. I think it’s great that you show that the happily ever after takes some work. It’s not all sunshine and roses.

And it’s always fun to see them again, since you can’t always do a full follow up with all the characters, it’s a great bonus to see them again in other books.

    Valerie
    :*

  60. Leagh Christensen says:

One of my most favorite things in this series is that you do revisit the previous couples. I agree…just because they have fallen in love and decided to be together doesn’t mean their story is complete. I absolutely love hearing about all the couples even though the focus is on a new couple. Thanks for a great series!

    ~Leagh

  61. Wanda says:

I love the fact you keep adding depth to each person in this series.Keep adding because it makes the characters more like part of a family. Can’t wait for Connor’s story.

  62. Allie says:

I love to revisit earlier characters with them as secondary characters. That is the whole reason I read a series. You get to know the people, and then you get the “and then what happened??” in every new book. :)

  63. Donyale says:

I enjoy when previous characters make an appearance…I always like to know how things are going for them ( like there real ;) haha ) when I get to the end of the book I don’t want it to end.

  64. T. says:

I love revisiting old characters! Readers bond with them just like the authors do when creating them. They become a part of your fantasy/reader world. I’m a huge fan of re-introducing them; it creates a familiarity while reading a new book with new characters.

    Have a fabulous day!! T.

  65. Stephanie says:

I always loved the continuation of characters in subsequent novels. One of my favorite series is the Black Dagger Brotherhood, which, after 8 different novels, is becoming one long continuous story. Which is, is it not, what you actually want in a great story…for it to never end. You become invested in the characters and their situations and it becomes a more enjoyable read!

  66. REGINA ROSS says:

i love reading about the old characters from the other books.

  67. Gayle Hudson says:

For me, when I become invested in the characters, I always LOVE going back to them and knowing what has happened in their lives since their story. Kids, wedding, new house, new adventures, etc. They become a sort of family. One of the reasons I loved JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood so much is that you continually read about the past characters and what is going on with their lives. For me, hearing about all of the characters keeps me coming back to a series.

  68. OrielaJ says:

One of the things I love the most about book series is the fact that we get to revisit other characters from the previous books. I like to know hoe their doing and what’s been going on in their lives since I finished their stories. I mean if previous characters aren’t revisited then when make them a series…they should just be individual books. So in closing yes please revisit old characters.

  69. LeeAnn says:

OK I absolutely love it when, in a series of books, any previous character/characters are mentioned in another, giving me an insight to either what happened to them after their story was told or a peek into what their story will be about in a future book..:)

  70. Diane says:

I love, love, love hearing about all of the past couples. It makes there stories never ending.

  71. Skip M says:

Personally I enjoy touching base with favorite characters from previous books. Its great to see how they are progressing … kind of like following along with them even though the current story is basically about someone else. It was great to see how Faith and Gray ended up getting married and worked through their first blow up. Also seeing how Serena realized here relationship with Damon was so much more intense when she worked past here “time-limit” constraints. It actually adds to the story and keeps everyone in touch.

  72. Marie R. says:

Maya, I know that have had this converison before and I have made this comment, but you bringing back the previous people who have had their own books is this series is what I love about it so much. Someone mentioned seeing a bit of Angelina in this one and it would make sense; Conner befreiended her. I makes sense. I am hoping that we get to see what everyone is up too in Sweet Possession. That is one of the real fun things about this series. Everyone blends together so well and they all are a part of each others lives. I love it!! Hope that we also see lots of Cole too!

  73. Liz says:

Maya!! For sure!! I love to revisit old characters. To be honest, its one of the biggest draws for me when I’m reading a series. I get invested in ALL the characters and I NEED to hear about how they are doing. I love how intertwined they are. For me, its kind of a ‘must’. In the case of Micah and Angelina, I am glad to hear more is coming. They came together pretty quickly in the end; quite beautifully and emotionally. But I definitely want to hear more about them and how they are doing.

  74. Rachel Riddles says:

I enjoying catching up with old friends from previous stories. I don’t think it takes anything away from the H/H of the story. Like in Sweet Temptation I really like when Nathan and Julie go back to her place and you see how much they love each other. I can’t put it into words but I loved it. Plus you see like real people they have relationships that aren’t perfect, but with love they work on it and through it. So I say keep it coming I enjoy it very much.

    Rachel

  75. Susan says:

I would love to hear about former characters! I’ve read all your books and love the characters! I don’t feel that it takes anything away from the new story line… if anything, it only enhances it. Real life relationships aren’t perfect, so why should your characters be any different? Keep writing good stories with good characters and I’ll keep reading!!

  76. Terri W. says:

One of the reasons I love the Sweet series so much is for that very reason. I love to see how everyone is doing, and I feel like I’m catching up with some good friends. When Faith thought Gray was cheating on her, and when Serena finally realized she wanted to marry Damon, I was just as hooked as when I read their original stories. Life keeps going after the HEA, and I love to get the updates!

  77. Rory G says:

I think the other characters add something extra, perhaps dimension, to the world you are giving us a sneak peak into. All the characters and their interactions are extension of what you are trying to draw us into. It makes it more like life and in some cases just as messy. I love to see snippets of what is happening with characters who have already had their HEA. Just like the previews we get of characters yet to have their HEA. I want to know them and revisiting them feels like catching up with old friends. I am glad you love your books since I do too.

I’ve always loved hearing about old characters. Like someone said you become attached to them and want to make sure they’re still doing alright..lol

  79. vanessa says:

i love the stories all being tired together. i think its great to hear how other couples are doing and whats going on in their lives, i dont believe it takes away from the current story im reading at all.

  80. Cataluna6 says:

I haven’t finished reading the Sweet series yet, but I always enjoy revisiting characters. Especially if I enjoy a series and the characters. I want to know what they’re up to. I think a for series where there are a group of characters that are close, it makes the story better, having the characters reappearing.

  81. Rogue says:

I’d love to read more about all the characters in the series!!!!

  82. Rita says:

I love seeing previous characters show up.. Its what holds a series together for me.. a family in a sorts.. Like in real..friends travel with you in life…

  83. Julie says:

This is actually one of the reasons I love the Sweet series. Sydney Croft has done the same thing in their ACRO series and I love it when authors do that. One of the reasons I like reading series is to see continuations of the stories of the original characters. But usually it’s just a mention here or there or maybe a brief interaction. I think it adds so much more depth to the story when an author acutally interjects sections from previous characters and threads them in to the new story, like you’ve been doing in the Sweet stories. It also keeps the readers more invested in the series. Please keep it going!

  84. Chrissy Diamond says:

I love ALL the charactors of the “Sweet” series. The fact that they all continue on to the next book is a major part of the appeal. Serena and Damon are my favorites but still love hearing about Julie & Nathan, Grey & Faith, now Micah and Angel. Cant wait to see who Conner and Cole end up with. . . btw do we get to see Julie and Nathans wedding too??

  85. Rozzie B. says:

Yes, we want you to revisit previous couples. Connected books are a favorite of mine. I like to see how characters progress. I truly enjoy your books and the characters are awesome. I always read the previously released books again right before I buy the new one so I can get in sync with the characters. You are doing a great job! Thanks for introducing me to new concepts in erotic/suspenseful romance. Can’t wait for your new series as well.

  86. Anglique says:

I think that all of the characters are an integral part of each story. While they may not focus on past characters they support the stories and like other comments I agree that as a reader I like to catch up with the other characters and follow the progression of their relationships. I have enjoyed more than my share of your books and especially the different series books it always gives you something to look forward to.

  87. Michelle N. says:

I LOVE when authors bring back characters from previous books in a series. It makes me feel as if they are real and we are seeing there lives continue on with there trial and tribulations to make relationships work.

So, please continue and no I don’t resent it taking from the main characters of the story. I always feels it adds layers to the story and the peoples live that are entwined with present and past characters. That’s one of the reasons I tend to buy more series book, I like the continuation of the story and the characters lives as they enfold.

  88. Angie Garcia says:

When I a reading a series I can’t wait to here how the past characters are doing. I really fall in love with the characters and hate to see them go. So it doesn’t take away from the present story when information about them is added. Actually it is really annoying when authors don’t let you know how the earlier characters are doing. I really hope you continue letting us know how the earlier characters relationships are progressing.

  89. Mary Stevens says:

Visiting Old Characters – Yes, please.

Gives me a feeling of satisfaction. Always like to keep up with the older characters, especially Micah and Damon; very complex relationships, issues yet to be resolved.

Beside this subject? Cole’s story, please. Crossing fingers.

    1. Cynthia says:

yes mary I agree with you I would love to read coles story!!!

  90. Angela Pascoe says:

I love love to hear about past characters…. I fall in love with them and it is good to catch up with them in the stories… I love Damon, Micah, all the characters…

  91. Cassandra says:

I love when they bring other characters back in the current story. OH my Nathan and Julie…soo love them and now Cole is going to get a chick…can’t wait….

  92. Michele says:

I love it. It makes a series more interconnected for me. I find sudden POV shifts, i.e. hero or heroine for most of the book and then suddenly a new POV out of the blue in the last third, very jarring. I do think it’s more effective when the secondary characters get more than one scene and they are spaced throughout the book if they are to have their own POV. Otherwise I like to hear about them relative to the main characters sticking with the hero or heroine’s POV.

  93. Tabatha says:

I personally love it when I get to see what’s going on with my favorite characters from past books. It makes the whole series more real as well as the characters when you can see what is happening now.

  94. Cynthia says:

I love when stories are connected and you revisit the character from other stories…sometimes you feel the story maybe needs a little bit more and a page or two in the next book does not hurt to it in only adds.

  95. TJ says:

I have just discovered your books a couple weeks ago and have now downloaded and read 13 of them on my Nook in just a couple weeks. I love the Sweet series so much that I just finished Sweet Temptation and had to find out if you were doing a book for Conner and Cole. I’m so glad I found out your are. My favorite books are ones that are series that the previous couples show back up in. Thanks for continuing to do it and you are now my FAVORITE AUTHOR. Now off to start at the beginning of the KGI Series :)

  96. Christina says:

I agree that as a reader I like to read updates about characters from previous books, as long as it is an update, I don’t care to spend several chapters rehashing their story. I think that when writer’s do this it is meant for those people who have not read the previous books in a series, but if you give a short reminder of their story and an update, or just an update then the reader is likely to go back and look for the book/s they missed. An update doesn’t really have to be short – I just don’t like half my book to be a story I have already read. That said though updates on characters from previous stories are great – kind of like seeing what your old friends are up to now!

  97. ingrid wurzer says:

I absolutely love hearing about the characters of previous books; considering the hard time Micah gave Angelina he deserves being kept on his toes;-))

  98. Bernadette Madden says:

I agree with others, Michah and Angelina is my favorite story. I love seeing old characters again to see how they are doing. Keep on bringing old characters back

  99. Jessica says:

OMG I LOVE LOVE THIS SERIES!! I could spend all day reading about these characters. I wish you’d write another 6 books about them! Please Please DO!!

  100. autom says:

I LOVE how you wrote the SWEET series!! I wish more people wrote like you do. Im happy to hear from the other characters in the other books. I have read all of the series twice and when I get into them I feel like I am right there with them. When you add something from the other characters in the book it just shows how they all are growing and changing. It makes them more human! Please write more books like this where you still get to hear from the characters that you already fell in love with and continue with ones that you want to learn more about!!!
